To Feed A Library

By Ehi Iyere

To Feed A Library

when i walk into a library,

i always want to speak out loud.

like, hey library, how do you do?

these books everywhere, what burden are they!

don’t you get tired having them on your shelves?

the books are stories of many,

waiting to be read by any.

the stories are immortal

and i guess the library does

not mind the weight.

the day you picked up your pen to

bleed on papers,

that is the immortality you feel.

the day you chose to become a writer,

and feed a library.
